Cost & pricing
How much does an asphalt driveway cost in Albuquerque?
Most residential asphalt driveways in Albuquerque cost between $4 and $7 per square foot installed in 2026. A typical 600 sq ft single-car driveway runs $2,400–$4,200. A 1,000 sq ft two-car driveway runs $4,000–$7,000. See our full pricing guide.
Why is asphalt cheaper than concrete in NM?
Asphalt costs roughly half what concrete does to install — $4–7 per sq ft for asphalt vs $8–15 per sq ft for concrete in Albuquerque. The materials are cheaper, installation is faster (1–2 days vs 5–7 days), and asphalt is more forgiving on the expansive clay soils common in parts of ABQ.
How much does sealcoating cost?
$0.15–$0.30 per sq ft for residential, or roughly $250–$500 for a typical Albuquerque driveway. Commercial lots fall into the $0.10–$0.20 per sq ft range. More on sealcoating.
What does pothole repair cost?
Small isolated repairs start around $150–$300 per pothole for hot-mix patching. Larger repair areas are priced per sq ft, generally $5–$10 per sq ft. Trip charges may apply for very small jobs.
When is the cheapest time to pave?
Late fall through early spring — when demand is lower. Hot-mix paving needs overnight temps above ~50°F, which limits but doesn't eliminate winter work in ABQ. Spring and early summer are peak demand and peak pricing.
Do you offer financing?
For larger residential projects ($5,000+), we work with a third-party financing partner offering fixed-rate payment plans. Ask when we quote.
Durability & lifespan
How long does an asphalt driveway last in New Mexico?
20–30 years when properly installed and sealcoated every 2–3 years. New Mexico's intense UV at 5,300 feet of elevation and freeze-thaw cycles shorten that lifespan if the base wasn't prepared properly.
How often should I sealcoat my driveway?
Every 2–3 years in Albuquerque. The UV here is intense enough that an unsealed driveway visibly oxidizes within 18 months and starts cracking by year four.
Why do potholes form so quickly in Albuquerque?
Water gets into cracks, freezes overnight (we hit below freezing 60+ nights a year), expands, and breaks the asphalt apart. Once a crack lets water through, it's only a matter of time.
What's the difference between overlay and full replacement?
An overlay lays 1.5–2 inches of fresh asphalt over your existing pavement — works when the base is structurally sound. Full replacement tears out everything to the sub-base. Overlay costs about 40–60% of replacement and lasts 8–15 years; replacement lasts 20–30.
Process & timeline
How long does it take to pave a driveway?
Most residential driveways take 1–2 working days. Day one: tear-out and base prep. Day two: paving and rolling. Walkable in hours, drivable in 24–48.
When is the best time of year to pave?
Spring through fall — anytime overnight temperatures are above ~50°F. Albuquerque's climate allows paving most months. Winter work is possible during warm spells.
Do I need a permit to pave my driveway?
For replacing an existing driveway on private property, usually no. For new driveways, widening, or work that affects the right-of-way, the City of Albuquerque requires a permit. We handle permitting when needed.
Can you pave my parking lot at night or weekends?
Yes. We regularly run night and weekend crews for retail, medical, and HOA lots so you don't have to close. Overnight temps need to be above ~50°F.
How fast can you fix a pothole?
Most repairs schedule within 3–7 days. Urgent safety hazards on commercial lots can usually be patched within 48 hours.

Comparison & alternatives
Asphalt vs concrete driveway — which is better for NM?
Asphalt is roughly half the upfront cost, more forgiving on expansive clay soils, installs in 1–2 days, and is easier to repair. Concrete lasts longer pure-life-span if soil is stable and you don't mind the higher initial price. Full comparison.
Should I sealcoat or resurface?
Sealcoat if your pavement is structurally sound and just looks faded or has hairline cracks. Resurface if you have wider cracks, oxidation that goes deep, or visible aggregate. Reconstruct if you have alligator cracking or sub-base failure.
Will my new asphalt match the surrounding pavement?
Fresh asphalt is darker. After a few months of UV exposure the new section lightens and blends in. For visual consistency, we recommend sealcoating the whole driveway after a patch or partial repair.
