Asphalt Resurfacing & Overlays in Albuquerque
When your base is still sound but the surface is shot, an overlay gives you a brand-new pavement at roughly half the cost of full replacement. Two days of work, 8–15 years of fresh surface.
The smart middle option between sealcoat and tear-out
An asphalt overlay is a fresh 1.5–2" layer of hot-mix laid directly over your existing pavement. It works when the base under your driveway or lot is still structurally sound — you're essentially just replacing the worn surface course.
We'll be honest about whether an overlay is the right call. If we see alligator cracking, sub-base failure, or major settling, we'll tell you that an overlay will reflect-crack and recommend reconstruction instead. The point is getting you to a result that actually lasts.
- Existing pavement cleaned, crack-filled, and tack-coat applied
- 1.5–2" of fresh hot-mix laid with a paver
- Rolled and compacted to spec
- Edges feathered or saw-cut for a clean transition
- Re-striping included for parking lots

Site evaluation
We check base condition, drainage, transitions, and grade. You get an honest yes/no on overlay viability.
Prep & tack
Clean the surface, crack-fill, then apply a tack coat so the new asphalt bonds to the old.
Lay & compact
Hot-mix laid 1.5–2" thick with a paver. Rolled to spec. Edges feathered or saw-cut for clean transitions.
Cure & open
Drivable in 24–48 hours. We walk the finished surface with you and provide a sealcoat schedule.
Resurfacing questions
Overlay or full replacement?
Overlay works when the base is structurally sound. If you have isolated cracking and surface oxidation, overlay is great. If you have alligator cracking, depressions, or sub-base failure, only full reconstruction will actually last.
How much does an overlay cost in Albuquerque?
Roughly 40–60% of the cost of full replacement, depending on prep work needed. Written itemized quote after we see the property.
How long does an overlay last?
8–15 years on a sound base. The lifespan is bounded by what's underneath — if the base eventually fails, the overlay will reflect-crack.
Will the new surface match my existing grade and transitions?
An overlay adds 1.5–2" of elevation. We feather the edges at garage doors, sidewalks, and curbs, and where elevation conflicts exist we saw-cut a transition. We walk every problem area with you before quoting.
